Two Current Petition Campaigns that Might Interest Some of You…

Hello All,

As you may have seen in the news, it is likely that tomorrow (Thursday 5/4), Trump will issue his “religious freedom” Executive Order.  According to Salon, it would “allow broad exemptions for ‘any organization, including closely held for-profit corporations’ who have a religious objection to same-sex marriages or the gender identity of transgender people.  These exemptions apply to social service agencies, healthcare providers, institutions of higher learning, employers, and even the federal government, which amounts to just about every sector of public life.”  Essentially, under the order many organizations would be able to create anti-Queer (and sexist) hiring and service policies based upon their stated religious beliefs.  The ACLU is calling it “a license to discriminate.”

The ACLU is currently asking people who opposed this EO to send messages to the White House.  (They have also vowed to sue if Trump signs the order.)  Click the image below for the page where you can send your message:

The Stonewall Inn was granted Historic Landmark status by President Obama, which basically keeps it from being torn down or turned into a chain store.  Last week Trump signed an EO to review Stonewall’s status as an Historic Landmark.  Click the image below to sign the Equality PAC petition to preserve its protected status:

(Please note that I am in no way trying to influence or judge anyone’s political and/or personal beliefs about these or similar issues.  I am passing along information that relates to our class content and might be of interest to some of you.)
