A few classes ago, when we were discussing Queer, we watched a few videos incorporating William S. Burroughs. I am posting them below in case you missed or would like to re-watch them.
In class I also mentioned that the controversial director David Cronenberg adapted Burroughs’ infamous novel Naked Lunch as a film. Instead of following the non-linear text (which may indeed be unfilmable), Cronenberg focused on Burroughs himself and the “story behind the story” – including Burroughs’ drug-fueled accidental murder of his wife Joan. Be warned – Cronenberg’s film is extremely graphic and extremely surreal! It stars Peter Weller (the original Robocop) as Burroughs, who is so close to being a doppelganger for the young Burroughs that it’s almost scary.
